I was certainly surprised by the news late last night. We had been at the Radnor Hunt Races Preview Auction at Brushwood Stables. Upon returning home we were met by the news the U.S. forces had finally hunted down the loathesome arch-criminal Bin Laden....and dispatched him with a hail of automatic weapons fire. I salute the Navy Seals and others involved with this operation...and hope some of the 9/11 families feel a sense of closure and justice.
However, I am not sure how I feel about the revelry and celebration displayed in the news this morning....
Agreed
ReplyDeleteThe only people not happy are the poor buggers who make their living printing "WANTED: DEAD OR ALIVE" t-shirts and bumper stickers with Osama's face on them. I gave a near-decade long exhale and growled a curse at his putrid soul... then returned to business as usual.
ReplyDeleteI didn't learn about this until early this morning, but couldn't believe me ears. Cheers to our military special troops for carrying out this mission. God bless America.
ReplyDeleteI fear the terrorist are going to be as outraged at that celebration as we were when there was celebration after 9/11. We need to hunker down and get ready for what's goning to happen next.Don't get me wrong he deserved to die to be sure, but no one should feel this is over by any means.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine shared this today. Food for Thought for sure:
ReplyDelete"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."

Every man knows it is tasteless to celebrate the death of an enemy. One moves forward in the battle, in the war, toward victory without arrogance, without shameful displays that belie the coward.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely glad that Osama is dead, but I agree, all the celebration on the news was a bit much. As much of a victory as this is, we need to remember that it is NOT an end to terrorism, plenty of terrorists still exist and nothing may change, other than a major figurehead now being gone.
ReplyDeleteI'm disappointed the SEAL that fired on bin Laden didn't empty his clip into him.
ReplyDeleteGo Navy.
